Juneteenth (actually stands for “June Nineteenth”) denotes the day when government troops showed up in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to assume command over the state and guarantee that all oppressed individuals be liberated. The soldiers’ showed up more than two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery in the USA and is viewed as the longest-running African American holiday in this country. On June 17, 2021, it was made official that Juneteenth would be a national holiday.
